What is the best investment banking interview prep platform?
Compare IB Offer, interview guides, modelling courses, and human mocks by the task you need to improve. Try three free questions before choosing.

For candidates who want to practise answers and receive feedback, our recommendation is IB Offer. If your main task is learning financial modelling in Excel from scratch, choose a modelling course. If you need someone to challenge your spoken answers, arrange a human mock interview. The best purchase solves the part of preparation you cannot yet do well.
This guide is published by IB Offer. We explain why we recommend our product and where another resource serves a different need. This is an editorial recommendation, not an independent performance ranking.
Which resource fits your current weakness?
| What happens when you practise? | Resource to consider | What you should produce |
|---|---|---|
| You understand the topic but cannot explain it clearly | IB Offer graded drills | An answer, a specific correction, and a fresh attempt |
| You cannot build the supporting spreadsheet | Wall Street Prep's modelling programme | A functioning model you can explain |
| You need a structured reference for interview topics | The BIWS Interview Guide | A topic checklist and your own closed-book answers |
| You need live interruption and follow-up questions | A knowledgeable peer or coach | A spoken interview and concrete debrief notes |
| You are preparing for a particular employer | IB Offer firm preparation plus the employer's careers page | A role-specific preparation list based on current instructions |
Wall Street Prep describes its Premium Package as Excel-based financial statement, DCF, comparable-company, M&A, and LBO modelling instruction. The BIWS Interview Guide is a separate interview-preparation product. Compare the actual package you intend to buy, rather than treating every product from a provider as interchangeable.
Before you compare price, answer a valuation and comps question or a public DCF question. Feeling the work first tells you whether you need more instruction, more reps, or better feedback.
Try three questions before choosing a platform
Use your own words. For the background question, try speaking for about a minute before writing the key points. For the valuation question, explain who owns each claim before naming adjustments. For the recovery question, describe what you would actually say when you do not know an answer.

Question 1 of 3
Give a one-minute answer that links your background to investment banking.
The reveal is the same authored guidance for every reader. It does not inspect your response or assign points. Compare it with your answer, identify one missing idea, and practise that idea again. The responses in this exercise are not a saved practice record; keep any notes you want to revisit yourself.
How should you review your answers?
A useful review separates a missing concept from an unclear explanation. Someone who understands a valuation bridge but buries its purpose needs a different next step from someone who cannot explain what debt represents.
| Question | Evidence to look for | One useful next rep |
|---|---|---|
| Your background | A throughline, relevant experiences, and a specific connection to analyst work | Remove one unrelated detail and make the connection explicit |
| Enterprise value versus equity value | Who each value belongs to, plus a reason for the bridge | Explain a simple business with debt and excess cash |
| Recovering from a miss | Honest uncertainty, a clarification, and a reasoned next step | Practise asking for the missing assumption without bluffing |
What makes a background answer convincing?
A list of impressive activities is not yet an explanation of your interest. Consider an original example: a student researched companies for an investment club, then helped a small business compare financing options. The connection might be that they enjoyed using financial analysis to support a business decision and want to develop that skill in transaction work.
The answer still needs evidence. What did the student analyse? What did they contribute? Why does banking fit better than another finance role? Use experiences you actually had. A modest example you can discuss in detail is more useful than a polished story you cannot defend.
What makes a technical explanation clear?
Start with the economic meaning, then the bridge. In a simplified example, suppose an operating business has enterprise value of 120 million, debt of 30 million, and 10 million of excess cash. With no other claims or adjustments, equity value is 100 million: subtract debt and add the excess cash.
That example is a teaching simplification. Real bridges can require further adjustments, and cash needed to operate the business is not automatically excess cash. The point of the rep is to explain why a claim changes what remains for shareholders. For deeper technical practice, use the technical interview question guide.
What does a useful recovery sound like?
Instead of guessing confidently, try: “I am not certain of the final answer. Can I clarify whether we are holding the purchase price constant? My starting point would be…” Then explain the part you understand and respond to the clarification.
This does not turn an incorrect answer into a correct one. It lets you show your reasoning and continue the conversation. Afterward, record the exact gap and solve it before repeating a similar question.
What should your attempt tell you to choose?
| What you observe | Next step |
|---|---|
| You cannot explain the concept after reading the reveal | Use a focused lesson, then return to the question |
| You understand the idea but your answer leaves out the reasoning | Try IB Offer graded practice and write down one correction |
| Your written answer is clear but the spoken answer wanders | Rehearse with a knowledgeable person who can interrupt |
| All three questions feel straightforward | Test a different topic and your actual interview format before buying more beginner material |
These three authored questions sample different skills. They are not a scored placement test or a complete syllabus.
Why do we recommend IB Offer for active preparation?
Because your next useful step is often an attempted answer. Reading another explanation can feel productive while leaving the original weakness untouched. In IB Offer, you can work through graded drills and use the feedback to decide what to practise next; the three-question set above runs one round before any account is needed.
Make the correction concrete. Suppose you can recite an enterprise-value bridge but cannot explain why debt is subtracted when moving to equity value. Your next task is to explain whose claim debt represents, then apply the bridge to a fresh example. Repeating the same memorised sentence does not address that gap.
The enterprise value versus equity value guide can help with the concept. Return to a new answer afterwards. A feedback score is a practice signal, not a prediction that an employer will hire you.

Want a no-account rep first? Try a public DCF question or a public behavioral question. If you want the feedback loop saved to an account, the practice set at the end of this page carries the attempt through signup.
Should you buy a course and a practice platform?
Only when they solve separate problems. A candidate who needs spreadsheet instruction and repeated answer practice may benefit from both. A candidate who already owns a course should first identify what remains difficult before buying another broad package.
Run a simple diagnostic before spending:
- Explain one technical concept aloud without notes.
- Apply it to a small numerical example.
- Answer a follow-up that changes an assumption.
- Mark where the attempt failed: understanding, calculation, recall, or delivery.
Choose the resource that addresses that failure. Do not use the number of lessons or questions as a substitute for trying the learning format.
For a purchase decision, use our course-value checklist. If you already rehearse in a general assistant, see where ChatGPT fits. If the shortlist is a question bank versus coached practice, read IB Offer versus the 400-questions guide.
What should you test before paying?
Try a topic you find difficult. Check whether the feedback identifies a specific issue you can act on. Read the access terms, cancellation conditions, and what is included in the exact plan. Then repeat the topic with different inputs and assess whether your reasoning improves.
For broader coverage, use our technical interview questions. For an immediate next step, the practice hub at the end of this page lists the graded surfaces by task.
Frequently asked questions
Can one platform prepare me for every interview?
No platform can know every interviewer's questions. Combine relevant technical preparation, truthful personal examples, current employer research, and spoken rehearsal.
Does this guide rank tools by offer success rate?
No. We have not run a controlled comparison of hiring outcomes. The recommendations distinguish learning formats and candidate needs.
Where should a beginner start?
Start with one concept, one attempted explanation, and one correction. If the concept is unfamiliar, study it before drilling harder variations.
How we compared these resources
The IB Offer editorial team compared the job each resource serves, its published format, and the output a candidate should be able to produce. We checked official product descriptions on 6 September 2026. We did not buy and benchmark every product or compare hiring outcomes. The three article exercises and worked examples are our own teaching material.
